Job Details

Responsible to Senior Support Workers, the Home Manager, Deputy Manager, Group Manager, and Directors.
Responsible for individual’s and visitors to the home.

Working Hours

7.5 hour shifts, 37.5 hours (full time)
*Combination of Early (7am – 2.30pm) and Late (2.30pm – 10pm) shifts across the week including 2 in 3 weekends.

Salary

£9.20 per hour

Qualifications

Desirable – All statutory and mandatory training, Induction, Diploma level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care. Training will be provided.

Requirements

A current DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) and satisfactory references from all previous positions related to care. A copy of the “Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England” should be obtained from your Manager and staff will be expected to adhere to it. Consent to regular COVID-19 testing.

Desirable

Previous experience in social care and in particular within the fields of learning disability and behaviours that challenge.

Job Summary

To promote the rights and interests of all individuals whilst protecting them as far as is possible from danger or harm. It is the duty of all staff to safely promote the independence of individuals as much as possible, (taking their wishes into consideration at all times), and to ensure that the home environment is pleasant and safe.

Under the guidance of senior care staff, line managers, support workers have responsibility to carry out the routine of the home and to support each individual with their day-to-day care needs and activities. Support workers may be designated other responsibilities such as key-working specific individuals. All staff have the responsibility for maintaining clear and accurate records on a daily basis and for implementing each individual’s comprehensive care programmes.

Key Tasks
  • To undertake the home’s induction programme upon commencement of employment and to ensure your own understanding of the information provided.
  • To be familiar with the needs and requirements of each individual and to provide appropriate care based on their individual Care Plans and personal risk assessments.
  • To assist individuals with personal care: including tasks such as bathing and toileting where this is required.
  • To maintain clear and accurate records as required by procedures established for your work.
  • To assist individuals in managing their behaviours as far as possible and to use approved intervention strategies and safe holds when required. (This is subject to staff receiving appropriate training)
  • To comply with the homes policies on Health and Safety and to ensure that any potential hazards within the home are reported to the appropriate person and rectified as soon as possible.
  • To undertake all relevant training in order to maintain and improve knowledge and skills in the interest of the individual’s and the home.
  • To support individual’s in safely accessing facilities and activities both within the home, and in the community.
  • To support individual’s in gaining access to their family; friends and social networks.
  • To attend regular supervisory meetings with their manager and to take responsibility for the development of own skills and work practices.
  • To be familiar with the homes Whistle Blowing Policy and to use it in the event of any form of abuse, neglect or harassment occurring to any individual or staff member within the home.
  • To respect the confidentiality of individuals and work colleagues, (not withstanding the obligations under the whistle blowing policy)
  • To safely use equipment within the home (wheelchairs, bath seats) subject to training being given in their correct use.
  • To carry out any reasonable requests by senior care staff or management as deemed fit within your job role and employment.
